President Donald Trump's latest Oval Office redesign has drawn widespread criticism after footage of the space, now decked out heavily in gold, was shared by the White House on X.

The video showed gold trim, mouldings, and furniture throughout the room, prompting viewers to brand the update "tacky," "wasteful," and "like a casino lobby." Even some Trump supporters expressed frustration, saying the opulent look was a misuse of funds during a time of economic strain.
Critics also accused the president of exaggerating the luxury, claiming that much of the gold décor is imitation. Online users pointed out that the ornate wall trimmings and fireplace fittings match polyurethane mouldings sold at Home Depot for under $60.
Despite the backlash, Trump has defended the makeover, saying it reflects "great love and 24-karat gold" and insisting the renovations are funded personally. Other recent updates — including replacing the Rose Garden lawn with white concrete — have also faced scrutiny for altering historic spaces.
More construction around the White House is reportedly planned.
