Mogensen’s Hunting Chair turns 75, Fredericia unveils limited edition reissue

Danish design brand Fredericia is marking the 75th anniversary of one of Børge Mogensen's most iconic works, The Hunting Chair, with the release of an exclusive limited edition of 75 pieces.

First introduced at the 1950 Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition in Copenhagen, The Hunting Chair epitomises Mogensen's enduring philosophy: furniture that is functional, honest in materiality, and deeply human. With its low, reclined stance, exposed solid wood frame, and robust saddle leather seat and back, the chair embodied the modern Danish design ethos—grounded in tradition yet boldly forward-looking.

The new anniversary edition is crafted in Denmark from FSC-certified ash finished in light oil, paired with dark brown saddle leather, light brown hand-stitching, and polished chrome buckles. Each chair bears a discreet steel anniversary plate engraved with Mogensen's signature and comes with a certificate of authenticity, signed by the craftsman who created it.

For Fredericia's CEO Rasmus Graversen, grandson of former company head Andreas Graversen, the chair is more than design history:
"For me, The Hunting Chair isn't just a design icon. It's part of my personal history. It's a piece that's been lived with, moved around, sat in, and loved. I think that's exactly what Mogensen wanted: furniture that becomes part of people's lives."
The ash edition was last produced in the late 1970s in collaboration with Mogensen and Andreas Graversen, making this reissue especially significant for collectors.

Alongside the anniversary launch, Fredericia is expanding its global presence with new brand studios in Tokyo and Stockholm, joining existing locations in Copenhagen, Oslo, and London.
