Marking its debut at Dutch Design Week, Canadian lighting studio hollis+morris joins forces with Dutch textile innovation platform BYBORRE to unveil Fabric Light: A Tactile Dialogue Between Material and Atmosphere. The installation offers a quiet study in material and atmosphere, where light and textile converge through shared values of sustainability, tactility, and systems thinking.
At the core of this collaboration lies a shared ethos: design as a conduit for emotional resonance, material responsibility, and cross-disciplinary thinking. Through their combined lens, Hollis+Morris and BYBORRE explore how lighting can move beyond function, becoming a medium for atmosphere, texture, and quiet impact, shaped by process as much as by form.

Suspended within the installation are a series of sculptural pendant luminaires, each enveloped in BYBORRE's signature three-dimensional knit textile. These advanced textiles, engineered from responsibly sourced and recycled yarns, do more than drape or decorate; they diffuse light, soften acoustics, and transform each fixture into an atmosphere of its own.
The luminaires themselves reflect Hollis+Morris' distinct design language; clean, sculptural forms rooted in craftsmanship and sustainability. Each component is sourced with intention: FSC-certified wood, locally milled aluminum, non-toxic finishes, and modular construction that supports repair over replacement. This attention to detail and environmental integrity is a hallmark of the studio's work, where material choices and production methods are inseparable from the object's final expression.

"We've long believed that light is more than illumination, it's atmosphere, story, and emotion," says Mischa Couvrette, Founder and Creative Director of Hollis+Morris. "By partnering with BYBORRE, we're able to push this philosophy even further. We're not just designing an object—we're shaping an experience that is both tactile and sustainable. It's especially meaningful to debut this work at Dutch Design Week, where values of experimentation and environmental accountability are central. This collaboration is also a celebration of what's possible when Canadian and Dutch design values come together in pursuit of a better material future."
The partnership reflects a growing movement toward interdisciplinary, systems-based design. The luminaires are not just functional; they invite a rethinking of light as an emotional, spatial, and material force. Fabric Light reveals how design can blur the lines between lighting, fashion, architecture, and sustainability, while honouring the integrity of each discipline.
As a debut installation at Dutch Design Week, renowned as an international platform for innovation, experimentation, and process, Fabric Light is more than a product showcase. It's a quiet provocation: a soft architecture for a future where design is measured not only in lumens, but in longevity, empathy, and material consciousness.
