Designing with the mind in focus at High Point Market

The NeuroDesign Academy will present a full day of education on Friday, 24 October, during Fall High Point Market in North Carolina. The programme, part of the Academy's "Emotional Design Series," is delivered in partnership with ANDMORE and will feature seven sessions between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Suites at Market Square.

The sessions bring together 14 international experts spanning neuroscience, marketing, sensory design and material innovation. Their focus is on how design impacts health, emotion and well-being, offering practical applications beyond theory. The series, titled "Emotional Design, the Power of NeuroDesign to Nurture, Mind, Body and Soul," will provide attendees with interactive workshops, live demonstrations and experiential learning.

Founder Linda Kafka, recognised for her work in neuroaesthetics and design education across the United States and Canada, curated the content alongside Nicole Baxter of Nicole Baxter Design. Kafka emphasised that each talk builds on the previous one, encouraging participation and exploration. Activities include experiments with texture and materials, sketching and colour intuition exercises, and a "sensory scent bar" to demonstrate the emotional power of olfactory design. Real-time biometric demonstrations will also measure non-conscious responses to design elements.

Topics include "Designing the Emotional Home," "NeuroMaterials," "From Forest to Feeling," "Rethinking Colour," "Timeless Appeal," "Doodle to Innovate," and "Neuromarketing for Interior Designers." Guest speaker Jaye Anna Mize of Future Snoops will highlight nostalgia as a driving force in design trends, noting that it is 'a tool for shaping the future' by creating spaces that evoke joy, comfort and familiarity.

The Academy's sessions are free but registration is required, with hands-on components limited to 50 participants. Between events, attendees can join community meet-ups to connect with peers. The day concludes with a neuromarketing panel offering strategies for client engagement and value communication.

For those unable to attend, the Academy will also host a virtual series. Established by Kafka, the NeuroDesign Academy provides CEU-accredited programmes and certification courses for design professionals, centred on the philosophy "Form Follows Feeling." Its mission is to integrate science, design and human experience, equipping professionals to create spaces that are both functional and emotionally resonant.
