Owner, Roland Powell Jr., of Outten Brothers Home Furnishings has partnered with Planned Furniture Promotions (PFP) to manage the going-out-of-business sale, ensuring the event reflects the professionalism and attention to detail that have defined the store for generations.
Founded in 1947 by Edward Outten and his brothers, Outten Brothers quickly gained a reputation for exceptional customer service, including in-home delivery and flexible financing. Edward opened the Salisbury store in 1958, and his son Jeff continued the family tradition until 2016, when Powell, a long-time employee and family friend, purchased the business and later rebranded it as Outten Brothers Home Furnishings. The family legacy continued through Powell's marriage to April Outten in 2023.
Outten Brothers has been active in supporting its community, contributing to Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army, Joseph House, local churches, and events like the Tangier Classic.
The store's closure marks the end of nearly eight decades of service and community involvement. Interested buyers may contact Powell or visit www.outtenfurniture.com for information on the liquidation sale.
