IKEA has warned consumers in the United States that furniture prices may rise due to the latest tariffs on imported goods announced by President Donald Trump.

The Swedish retailer emphasises its continued commitment to keeping costs low, but the new trade measures are making this more difficult. IKEA stated it will do its best to manage costs but cannot guarantee that prices will remain the same.
The warning follows Trump's announcement of significant tariff increases effective October 1, 2025. The plans include a 50% tariff on kitchen and bathroom cabinets and related products, and a 30% tariff on upholstered furniture such as sofas and chairs. Other sectors will also be affected: heavy-duty trucks face a 25% tariff, and patented medicines will be hit with a 100% tariff.

Trump defended the measures, arguing that imported goods were flooding the US market, threatening American jobs and national security.
IKEA's statement highlights the challenges international retailers face due to trade measures and the pressure to maintain affordable products while managing higher import costs. Consumers are advised to expect potential price increases in the coming months.
