Factory Bathrooms reported that the bolt, which hit the building on Thursday, 11 September, caused the roof to cave in, melted wiring and blew sockets from the walls. Falling rubble also damaged cars parked outside.
In a separate incident during the same storm, showroom installer Andy was also struck by lightning while sitting in his car with one foot outside. He was later examined by paramedics and found to be unharmed. Anton Edwards, who rents the building, told the BBC: '[Andy] had his foot hanging out of the door of his car and the lightning hit his foot. He's fine, he just got straight back to work. He's a Yorkshireman.'
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service attended with three crews and an aerial ladder platform to assess the building and ensure it was safe.
Factory Bathrooms expressed gratitude to emergency services and customers for their support. The official opening of the Leeds Road showroom is now scheduled for Saturday, 27 September.
