The site is the third of the retailer's small-format stores to open this year, following launches in Harlow and Norwich. Designed to be quicker and more cost-effective to establish than traditional sites, the new model repurposes existing retail park buildings and aims to bring IKEA closer to communities where it is not yet present.
With a compact layout focused on everyday convenience, IKEA Chester will feature inspiring room sets, second-hand finds, kitchen planning services and a wide selection of furnishings and small furniture available for same-day purchase. Customers will also be able to enjoy "the IKEA experience they know and love," including food and design expertise.
The store will be staffed by a team of around 35 co-workers, creating new local employment opportunities. It forms part of the retailer's wider UK expansion strategy, which includes upcoming Plan and Order Points in Dundee, Hull and York, as well as city stores in Brighton and on London's Oxford Street.
