Heinzel De Vries translates pastry poetry into Antwerp’s Et Claire interior

Amsterdam-based interior architects Heinzel De Vries have unveiled the design for Et Claire's second venue on Oudaan, in the heart of Antwerp. Following the successful launch in Amsterdam in 2022, this new location brings the brand's luxurious all-day concept, refined viennoiserie, champagne, fine wines, and light apéritifs, to a Belgian audience.

The interior draws inspiration from the very essence of pastry. The façade, adorned with butter-yellow awnings and an inviting terrace, signals warmth and indulgence. Inside, a warm buttery yellow palette playfully references French butter, the key ingredient in every pastry. At the centre stands an éclair-shaped counter, setting a layered narrative echoed throughout the space: in the gleaming brass bar, bespoke panelling, furniture, and even restroom details, each element mirrors the folds of laminated dough.

Soft, feminine forms complement the layered concept. Bespoke velvety yellow couches with refined piping curve around onyx-topped tables and counters. Silk and brass wall lamps diffuse a gentle glow over tinted mirrors, while a natural-stone mosaic floor grounds the design in understated luxury. An open kitchen at the rear keeps the craft of pâtisserie on display, inviting guests to witness the making of croissants, artisanal savoury bakes, and seasonal puff-pastry creations.

"Designing Et Claire Antwerp was an invitation to translate the poetry of pastry into spatial experience. We focused on warmth, luxury and a compelling journey, where every layer and curve was conceived to tempt the senses," say Tinka Heinzel and Barbara de Vries.

This project further establishes Heinzel De Vries' reputation for storytelling through design, blending bold materials and refined forms with exceptional hospitality. The studio's versatile portfolio includes Efteling Grand Hotel, Hotel de Blanke Top, Dutch Museum Association headquarters, and Et Claire Amsterdam.

Et Claire Antwerp, located on Oudaan, marks the brand's first international expansion and will open its doors in October 2025, offering signature airy croissants, artisanal pastries, specialty coffee, champagne, and wine in a warm, design-led setting.
