Space is the new luxury in today's urban living, and Italian manufacturer Dienne Salotti has built its reputation on addressing this challenge with a fresh approach to sofa beds. Far from being an afterthought for spare rooms, the company aims to place its designs firmly in the heart of the home.
''We want to create a sofa for the living room that is nice, comfortable, and designed as a real product, while also integrating a great mechanism and mattress inside.'' says Pasquale Cannito, Export Sales Manager at Dienne Salotti. ''Our idea is that when people try our products, they should not realise it is a sofa bed.''

From Italy to the world
Founded 25 years ago, Dienne Salotti has grown into a brand with an international presence in more than 25 countries. France, Germany and the Benelux region remain core markets, but the company's ambitions extend much further.
''I am involved in the DACH, Benelux, Scandinavian areas, and also the US, which we see as a new and growing market,'' Pasquale explains. ''Our main idea is to become a brand, and to become a brand you have to sell everywhere. We don't have markets where we say no.''
This openness has already led to strong partnerships not only with retailers, who represent 70 per cent of sales, but also with hotels, hostels and serviced apartments. ''About 30 per cent of our business is contract,'' he adds. ''We can satisfy a huge variety of tastes and needs.''

Redefining comfort and design
Sofa beds have often been associated with compromise, but Dienne Salotti is determined to change that perception. Pasquale notes: ''Usually when people think of sofa beds, they imagine a low-price product, not nice and not comfortable. We try to be completely different. We want to make a comfortable product with nice design.''
The company offers different models tailored to usage frequency. Its Modula collection, for example, features a 17 cm mattress, ideal for daily sleeping. ''Most of our customers sleep every day on our sofa beds.'' Pasquale says.

Spotlight on M.O.W. fair
''Germany is an absolutely interesting market for us, and the results have been growing for ten years,'' says Pasquale . ''At M.O.W. we always show our bestsellers, because there are always new customers, but also the novelties we presented in Milan in April. Not everyone can attend Salone del Mobile, so it's important to present those innovations locally.''
This year, the company promises something special. ''For sure, visitors can expect some surprises from us in design. There will be an extremely nice evolution of our Model Petra, which will be seen at M.O.W..'' Pasquale reveals.
The company's goal is clear: to build an international brand that redefines multifunctional furniture. As Pasquale puts it, ''We want to move the concept of sofa beds from being secondary in the home to being a priority, a beautiful and practical solution for modern living.''
