The Home Depot has finalised its $5.5bn acquisition of GMS Inc. through its subsidiary SRS Distribution. GMS, a major distributor of drywall, ceilings, steel framing and related products, operates more than 300 distribution centres and nearly 100 tool sales and rental locations across the US and Canada.

The deal, first announced on 30 June 2025, strengthens SRS's position as a leading multi-category building materials distributor. Home Depot chair, president and CEO Ted Decker said the combination would enable cross-selling opportunities and broaden capabilities to better serve professional contractors, or 'Pros'.
Home Depot has prioritised growing its share of wallet with Pros, particularly in supporting both complex construction projects and smaller renovations. SRS, acquired by Home Depot in 2024, continues to deliver strong growth, with more than 800 locations across 48 states.
The addition of GMS is expected to expand service options, improve fulfilment and create new opportunities to support residential and commercial contractors.
Founded in 1971, GMS brings a national scale paired with local market expertise, while SRS, founded in 2008, has built its business on rapid growth and an entrepreneurial culture. Home Depot now aims to leverage the combined strengths of both distributors to reinforce its leadership in the Pro market.
