From Highland threads to high fashion: Stevens & Graham revives EU exports post-Brexit

Stevens & Graham, is regaining momentum in European markets after overcoming post-Brexit export challenges. Established in 1947, the Scottish family-run business serves both contract and domestic sectors, designing and producing traditional wool-woven styles that have graced high-profile projects, from luxury hospitality and retail to film sets, including Trainspotting 2.

Initially, Brexit disrupted Stevens & Graham's European operations, halting exports and threatening key contracts. In 2023, the company found a solution through Europa Road, part of Europa Worldwide Group, one of Britain's largest independent logistics providers.

A representative from Stevens & Graham explained:
"We struggled with the restrictions brought into action through Brexit, which meant we found it challenging to access EU markets. Due to the high-profile nature of our projects, there is no room for delays. Leveraging Europa Road's services means we're able to meet challenging timings and take on new opportunities."

Thanks to this partnership, EU exports now account for 40 per cent of Stevens & Graham's shipments. Recent highlights include furnishing three bespoke showrooms for a leading Parisian fashion brand.

Elisa Elder, Glasgow Branch Manager at Europa, added:
"Stevens & Graham use our Deliver Duty Paid (DDP) Europa Flow Service, which offers a pre-Brexit service with reduced paperwork, lower costs and faster transit times for businesses. Our expertise in high-value, time-sensitive consignments meant that our team was able to support its latest project by meeting tight deadlines through our own vehicles and network of local hauliers."

Adrian Redmile, Branch and Sales Director at Europa Worldwide Group, said:
"We recognise the importance of driving operations forward and contributing to the economy. Each of our expert local teams play a pivotal role in our wider operation, ensuring each customer receives an exceptional service. I'm delighted to see our Glasgow team is supporting Scottish businesses by transporting high-end bespoke tartan carpets with a timely service and look forward to their growth and success in the future."

The company's revival comes as the UK Carpet and Rug market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.3 per cent from 2024 to 2032, driven by urbanisation, home renovation trends, and demand for eco-friendly products.
