Attorney Vanja Alexander Kovacev of BBL has been appointed provisional administrator to review the company, Malie Mecklenburgisches Matratzenwerk GmbH's, financial situation. Along with colleagues Nicole Laakmann and Lorenz Schuwerack, he will supervise the process and safeguard creditor interests. Preparations for an investor process are already under way.
The company, which employs around 70 staff, has been hit by a "massive decline in sales" since 2024, attributed to weak consumer spending and a broader drop in demand since the pandemic. In the past financial year, Malie reported turnover of nearly €8 million.
Managing Director Bernd Kessler stated that the move into self-administration was intended to "secure production at the Warin site in the long term and position it competitively", while also praising staff loyalty during the process.
Malie has produced mattresses for more than 80 years, serving markets in Germany, Denmark, across Europe and in China, alongside a local factory outlet.
