Crown Imperial has confirmed that its factory remains "fully operational," contradicting reports from sister distribution company Waterline that staff had been told the factory was closed. The dispute arose after Waterline, facing financial challenges, informed employees that the Crown factory would "cease operations" and placed staff in a 30-day redundancy consultation period.

Managing director Barry Head stated that deliveries to Waterline's Newport Pagnell depot have been temporarily paused due to Waterline's financial difficulties. He reassured employees and customers that the company is seeking clarity while Waterline explores its options.
Waterline CEO Michael Marriott, Head's brother, confirmed the company is seeking external investment to secure its future. "Like many in our sector, we are currently facing cashflow pressures and are carefully reviewing our options," he said. "These steps are part of a broader strategy to build a stronger, more resilient business."
The situation has caused confusion among Crown dealers, many of whom have received no direct communication from the company and were instead informed by Waterline representatives that the factory had closed. The unfolding developments leave uncertainty over how Crown products will be delivered while Waterline pursues additional financing and potential investment.
The ongoing discrepancy highlights tensions between Crown Imperial and its distribution partner during a period of financial strain.
