Independent beds and mattresses retailer Sussex Beds has confirmed the closure of its Horley store on High Street, just over two years after it opened in January 2023. This follows the closure of its Dover location in June 2024.

The Horley branch was placed into liquidation on 21 August 2025, with Tom D'Arcy and Chris Latos of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP appointed as joint liquidators. Documents filed with Companies House reveal the store owed unsecured creditors £233,000, primarily to other divisions within the group, with Sussex Beds Centre (Distribution) Limited owed £133,000.
Steve Pickering, CEO, explained that "sometimes stores don't work out" and described the closure as part of a process to "learn, reset, and move forward again." He emphasised that each store operates as a separate company, making the liquidation a procedural formality.
All Horley team members have been reallocated to alternative positions within the business. Pickering stated that the company remains committed to growth, describing the closures as steps toward becoming "stronger, wiser, and eager to pursue our plans for growth and new opportunities."
With 13 stores remaining, Sussex Beds continues to focus on maintaining flexibility and stability across its retail portfolio.
