IKEA to open first New Zealand store on December 4th

Ingka Group, the largest IKEA retailer, has announced it will open its first New Zealand store on 4 December 2025 in Sylvia Park, Auckland. The milestone marks the company's first entry into a new market since Ljubljana, Slovenia in 2021.

Covering 34,000 m² across three floors, IKEA Sylvia Park will house more than 7,500 home furnishing items, available in-store, online and by phone. The store will also feature a Swedish Restaurant and Bistro, serving iconic IKEA dishes such as meatballs and hot dogs – including plant-based versions, alongside exclusive New Zealand-only menu items.

Tolga Öncu, Ingka Retail Manager (COO) at IKEA Retail (Ingka Group), said: 'The interest and anticipation for IKEA in New Zealand can be felt all the way to Sweden, and we are very humbled by it. Welcoming a new country to the IKEA family always brings special emotions, and we could not be more excited to meet the Kiwis soon and support them in achieving their needs and dreams for life at home.'

For the first time in a market entry, IKEA will also introduce 29 nationwide Pick-Up Points and home delivery services from day one, extending access to its range beyond Auckland. Customers will benefit from the retailer's Buy Back service, enabling pre-loved IKEA, and even non-IKEA, furniture to be rehomed more sustainably.

The new store will run entirely on renewable energy. A rooftop solar PV system will provide around half of its power needs, with the rest purchased from local renewable sources. Additional features include a 100% LED lighting system with over 3,000 individually controlled lights, 25 electric vehicle charging stations for customers, and EV chargers for last-mile delivery trucks.

In preparation for the opening, IKEA has launched its IKEA Family loyalty programme in New Zealand, offering members exclusive benefits, early access and personalised experiences. Registration is open now at www.IKEA.co.nz.

With this opening, New Zealand joins IKEA's global network of stores, part of Ingka Group's strategy to invest more than EUR 5 billion by FY27 in new and existing locations worldwide.
