August furniture insights reveal stabilising market amid industry challenges

Smith Leonard has released its August edition of Furniture Insights, offering an in-depth look at current trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping the global furniture industry. The monthly report, widely recognised across the sector, combines confidential survey data from key industry participants with candid discussions from leaders to provide a clear picture of market performance.

The August analysis reflects a market that, while facing persistent economic pressures and shifting consumer behaviours, is showing signs of stabilisation in several segments. Executives participating in the survey noted that order levels and shipments, while not fully rebounding to pre-pandemic highs, are displaying gradual improvements in specific categories.

"Furniture Insights has always been about helping the industry see the bigger picture," said a spokesperson for Smith Leonard's Furniture Practice Leadership. "By blending data with real-world feedback, we aim to equip manufacturers, retailers, and stakeholders with the insights they need to adapt and thrive."

Highlights of the August report include:

  • Order and shipment updates: Several companies reported steadying order volumes compared to earlier in the year, though challenges remain in aligning inventory with demand.
  • Consumer behaviour trends: Price sensitivity remains high, with retailers adapting through targeted promotions and a sharper focus on value-driven collections.
  • Supply chain adjustments: While logistics have improved, cost pressures and global uncertainty continue to influence operational planning.

The report also emphasises emerging optimism in international markets, particularly in Europe, where demand for sustainable and design-forward products is fuelling new opportunities for growth.

In addition to its market insights, Smith Leonard announced two key community and industry events:

  • CPE Day on 6 November at The Conference Center at GTCC, offering eight credit hours, including one hour dedicated to ethics.
  • The JAM Jog 5K & 1-Mile Fun Run on 11 October in Oak Ridge, NC, benefiting Mission MSA and honouring retiring partner James Mitchell for his legacy of community service.

The August Furniture Insights report is available for download via Smith Leonard's website, offering a comprehensive analysis for manufacturers, distributors, and retailers navigating an evolving market.
