Thomas Bußkamp, owner of the EuroComfort Group and chairman of the German Mattress Industry Association, has acquired the traditional Schlaraffia brand following the preliminary insolvency of Aquinos Bedding Germany. The purchase covers the trademark rights, patents, and intellectual property, while production sites were left unsold due to outdated machinery and costly logistics.

The acquisition ensures that wages and salaries of 171 employees can be paid until the end of their notice periods, with opportunities to apply for roles within the EuroComfort Group. The Bocholt-based EuroComfort Group, one of Europe's largest bedding and upholstery manufacturers, operates ten production sites with 4,595 employees and owns brands including Irisette, Brinkhaus, and Ewald Schillig.
Schlaraffia, with a 115-year history, had been owned by Aquinos Bedding Germany since 2022, but financial difficulties across its European subsidiaries led to insolvency. The brand operated a mattress plant in Bochum-Wattenscheid and a slatted frame facility in Jöhstadt, both closed prior to the insolvency filing.
Bußkamp plans to rapidly rebuild and reposition Schlaraffia on the market, signalling a new chapter for the historic brand under EuroComfort Group's management.
