Loddenkemper closes after 130 years of furniture manufacturing

The long-established bedroom and living room furniture manufacturer Loddenkemper in Oelde has officially ceased operations, ending a 130-year history. The final orders were completed and handed over to logistics partner Röhr last Friday, following a prolonged insolvency process that began in November 2024.

Despite efforts by management, including Alexander Kolb, Sales Director Sebastian Schulte, and Works Council Chairman Michael Boertz, to secure an investor and preserve the company, no solution materialised. A large proportion of the former 180 employees were laid off, while a core team of around 25 staff completed the remaining production.

In a farewell letter, the leadership team stated, 'With pride, passion, and humility, we have adapted our production processes to the reduced workforce in order to complete as many commissions as possible.' They also thanked employees and partners for their loyalty, noting that many former staff have now found new employment opportunities.

The closure marks the end of an era for Loddenkemper, known for its traditional furniture craftsmanship, and highlights the challenges faced by legacy manufacturing firms navigating insolvency and modern market pressures. The company bid a quiet farewell from Oelde, expressing gratitude for decades of trust and collaboration.
