Amazon has launched "Manufacturing Central", a portal linking marketplace sellers with verified manufacturers in India across seven categories, including apparel, furniture, home décor, kitchen products and office supplies. The platform, introduced in August 2025, allows sellers to browse manufacturer profiles, request quotations and track order updates, though transactions occur outside the portal.

The move follows Amazon's earlier requirement for sellers to upload sourcing cost data, giving the company deeper insight into production economics. By focusing exclusively on Indian suppliers, the initiative reflects a strategic shift away from reliance on Chinese manufacturing amid rising tariffs and global trade tensions.
While access to the platform is currently free, Amazon has not confirmed whether fees will be introduced. Industry analysts suggest the service is particularly beneficial for new sellers lacking supply chain experience, though some established vendors have expressed concerns over increasing dependency on Amazon.
The launch extends Amazon's growing control over its supply chain, adding manufacturing connections to its logistics and fulfilment services. Expansion to other countries and categories is anticipated but has not been announced.
