According to Kingdon, leaving hallways "plain and white" is a missed opportunity. She recommends adding colour or texture to elements like doors, skirting boards or ceilings to create a striking first impression. Bedrooms, she says, are another area often neglected. 'Plain bedding and no artwork is just boring. You spend half your life in there, make it feel like you,' she advised, suggesting vibrant bedding, cushions or wall art to add personality.
Kingdon also warned against poorly executed gallery walls, where artwork is "hung too high or too far apart", reducing visual impact. Keeping art at eye level and grouping pieces closely together enhances the look. Finally, she stressed the importance of dimmable lighting, describing it as essential for setting the right mood: "Mood matters! Not every moment calls for a full blast of brightness."
Her advice, shared widely on social media, emphasises that thoughtful design choices can transform a space without requiring major renovations or large budgets, making stylish, comfortable living accessible to everyone.
