The Castellón (Spain) furniture sector has suffered a sharp downturn in the first half of 2025, with exports falling 18.5% year-on-year to €46.2 million, according to industry association Anieme. The decline, which began early in the year, has deepened despite steady or rising exports in other provinces such as Valencia and Alicante and a national increase of 3.8% to €1.607 billion.

France, Castellón's largest market, recorded a 19.4% drop to €9.3 million, impacted by falling retail demand and an 11% decline in housing construction. The United States, the province's second-largest customer, saw a sharper 38.6% plunge to €7.4 million, driven by trade uncertainty and looming tariffs, reducing its market share from 21.3% to 16%. Italy, the third-largest buyer, cut imports by 23% to €6.4 million.
Portugal showed marginal growth of 0.8% to €4.4 million, while the United Kingdom saw a 20.5% drop to €3 million. Morocco emerged as a bright spot, more than doubling its imports to €813,500, mainly through contract projects.
Anieme warned that heavy reliance on France and the US—accounting for 36% of exports—has made the sector particularly vulnerable, casting a shadow over the upcoming Valencia Habitat Fair.
