Haier under pressure as safety fears grow over tumble dryers

Haier has been issued an urgent "requirement to warn" notice by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) over a potential fire risk in thousands of heat pump tumble dryers. The alert applies to dryers that had already undergone modifications under Haier's earlier corrective action programme, which the OPSS has now deemed "not satisfactory".

The affected models include appliances sold under brands such as Candy, Baumatic, Caple, Haier, Hoover, Lamona, Iberna and Montpellier, purchased between 2019 and 2025. Consumers are being advised to "stop using the appliance immediately and unplug it from the mains".

Haier has apologised for the issue, stating that it remains "committed to consumer safety" and is coordinating with OPSS to resolve the problem. The company is contacting affected customers and arranging for qualified engineers to visit homes, verify models and carry out a free safety modification.

Consumers can check whether their appliance is impacted by entering the 16-digit serial number on Haier's safety website or by emailing [email protected]. The company has urged all owners of affected appliances to act quickly to ensure their dryers are made safe for use.
