Carl Hansen & Søn is expanding its celebrated Nanna Ditzel and Jørgen Ditzel collection with the relaunch of two defining designs: the ND52 Vita Sofa and the ND55 Coffee Table. Both pieces reflect the Danish duo's playful, boundary-pushing approach that challenged the strict functionalism of the 1950s.

Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel, regarded as two of the most influential figures in Danish design, created furniture that encouraged play, freedom of movement, and discussion. Their experimental spirit is captured in the sculptural form of the Vita Sofa and the surprising functionality of the ND55 Coffee Table.
'Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel were the industry's "ensemble terrible', constantly pushing boundaries both intellectually and technically, and never taking no for an answer. And thank goodness for that! They quickly developed into a recognised designer duo, achieving success both in Denmark and internationally. Today, we are therefore particularly proud to expand our collection with two more playful pieces from the Ditzel family,' said Knud Erik Hansen, CEO and third generation owner-manager of Carl Hansen & Søn.
The ND52 Vita Sofa, designed in 1952 and named after the Ditzels' daughter, features a floating, open shell balanced on an elegant wooden frame. With its high back, armrests, and soft organic shapes, the sofa creates a serene and inviting atmosphere. Produced by Carl Hansen & Søn's skilled cabinetmakers and upholsterers using responsibly sourced materials, the sofa is available in FSC®-certified oak or walnut, upholstered in either fabric or leather.
The ND55 Coffee Table, designed in 1955, embodies the Ditzels' playful approach to function. At first glance a simple table, it reveals a discreet pull-out extension leaf that expands the tabletop with ease. Crafted from solid oak or walnut with brushed brass fittings, the ND55 is produced at Carl Hansen & Søn's factory in Denmark.
'It means a lot that a renowned furniture manufacturer like Carl Hansen & Søn is relaunching the sofa and coffee table, it has been important to us that production remains in Danish hands, and that no compromises are taken with regard to quality, craftsmanship and aesthetics, but that both pieces of furniture are produced as close to the original versions as possible.

The Vita Sofa will be available from €3,540 (excl. VAT) and the ND55 Coffee Table from €1,218 (excl. VAT). Both designs will be in stores from December 2025.
