Interior designer says these five common home items ruin your space

Interior decorator and content creator Nicolas Fairford has sparked debate online after naming five everyday items he believes are "ugly" and should never appear in a home.

Speaking on TikTok, Fairford said televisions dominate living spaces, calling them an "ugly black box" that disrupts flow and beauty. Microwaves were his next target, which he described as "a huge metal box" that unnecessarily takes up space.

He also criticised indoor clothes drying, stating that visible laundry "kills the vibe in any house" and should be hidden away. Overhead lighting was another offender, with Fairford arguing it makes interiors less appealing and people less attractive. Instead, he recommended lamps to create "a nice glow."

Finally, he dismissed unused decorative candles as dust collectors that look "terrible" unless lit.

The video drew strong reactions, with some agreeing and others defending items such as televisions as "absolutely needed." Others added their own dislikes, including visible cords and cliché wall art.

The controversy highlights the divide between practical living and aesthetic ideals, with Fairford's opinions pushing many to reassess their home decor.
