Founder and CEO of Wecycle Furniture, Didde Christiansen, described the figures as reflective of a "challenging period" common in the early stages of furniture and design businesses, particularly those focused on local, sustainable production. She stated she remains "fully dedicated to the project" and is already seeing "a positive development" in 2025 as consumer confidence improves.
The company gained national attention in early 2024 through its appearance on the TV programme "Løvens Hule", securing DKK 400,000 in investment from business partners Anne Stampe and Louise Herping Ellegaard, who each acquired a 10% stake.
Wecycle's designs, which began with a bench made from recycled wood in Christiania, are now stocked by 10 Danish retailers and one in the Faroe Islands. The company uses materials such as leftover timber sourced through Bygma Denmark and fast-growing jute for wickerwork, aiming to combine environmental responsibility with contemporary design.
