Global log prices show sharp increases amid mixed regional trends

Log prices in several key markets have shown notable shifts in 2025, with Norway recording the steepest rise. According to Statistics Norway, spruce logs reached NOK 1,096/m³ (€92/m³) in June, the highest level on record. This represents an increase of around one-third compared to June 2024. Pine log prices fell slightly, while hardwood logs saw a significant decline month-on-month.

In Poland, softwood log prices in the second quarter of 2025 were substantially higher than the same period in 2024, despite a marked drop from the previous quarter.

Latvia reported renewed growth in both coniferous and hardwood log prices. Coniferous prices rose for the second quarter running, while hardwood prices increased for the first time after nearly two years of decline.

The United States saw a contrasting trend, with hardwood lumber exports falling 10% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year. Major buyers China and Canada reduced their purchases significantly, contributing to the downturn.

The figures reflect a global market experiencing both record highs and declining demand, shaped by local conditions, trade dynamics and shifting consumer requirements.
