Modus Furniture reinforces Europe strategy amid Benelux agent search

'The team balances aesthetic innovation with functional design to shape each collection'

Modus Furniture operations spans over three continents, with its headquarters and design hub being in Los Angeles. During an interview, Jackie Enghof, the European General Manager, revealed that their approach to quality and good pricing is consistently achieved through a blend of a centralised design team in LA, rigorous internal quality checks, and seamless coordination with their network of Asian manufacturers. The company's direct offices in key sourcing regions are pivotal in upholding production standards and specifications, while their European operations, including a warehouse in Germany, ensure localised delivery with a good timely response after purchase.

Design approach and trend monitoring
The Los Angeles design team actively monitors global design movements and collaborates with industry trend forecasters. Jackie states, 'The team balances aesthetic innovation with functional design, using market feedback, retailer input, and consumer behaviour insights to shape each collection.' This approach aims to keep products aligned with current trends while addressing commercial viability.

Sustainability in production and supply chain
Sustainability is integrated into Modus Furniture's strategy through responsible sourcing, efficient manufacturing, and waste reduction. Jackie highlights, 'The company focuses on sourcing responsibly harvested wood, utilising efficient manufacturing processes, and minimising packaging waste.' Efforts are ongoing to improve traceability and reduce environmental impact throughout the global supply chain. Investments have also been made in a full digitalisation of all Modus products. AR (augmented reality) applications on smartphones and tablets can therefore be used by customers to bring the furniture into their homes digitally before making the purchase decision. This further reduces waste and retunes of goods.

Innovation through patented finishes
A key area of product development includes patented finishes designed to enhance durability and tactile experience. Jackie explains: 'A multi-layered finishing process that gives solid wood pieces a richly textured, hand-applied aesthetic, combining visual appeal with long-lasting protection against wear.' This innovation illustrates the company's focus on technical advancements in material finishing.

Vertical manufacturing and operational control
Modus Furniture has access to the actual manufacturing processes, being it the own factory or through long term joint ventures and partner manufacturers. Jackie explains: 'This enables faster lead times, consistent quality, and greater flexibility for private label programs and customers requests.' This approach reduces reliance on third parties, allowing greater control over costs, timelines, and innovation.

Inventory management and order flexibility
Managing inventory capacity for over 600 containers involves sophisticated ERP systems and strategic forecasting. The U.S. warehouse prioritises speed and flexibility, supporting full and mixed container shipments, while the German warehouse is tailored to regional demands with curated stock for weekly B2B orders. This structure supports responsiveness to diverse retailer requirements.

Smaller orders and custom runs are supported through mixed container programs and direct manufacturing partnerships. Jackie states, 'This flexibility enables us to meet both boutique and volume needs with equal attention,' highlighting an operational model adaptable to different market segments.

Digital tools and production tracking
Modus Furniture integrates systems to provide real-time order tracking and production scheduling. Cloud-based tools and direct communication between offices and factories enhance visibility and efficiency across the supply chain.

Positioning within the furniture market
Modus Furniture differentiates itself by combining design leadership, global reach, flexible fulfilment models, and quality control. Jackie describes the company as offering "not only physical products but also value-added services like private label, turnkey design, digital tools, and AR applications," positioning Modus as a full-service partner in the B2B furniture sector.

Outlook and upcoming initiatives
Looking ahead to 2025, Modus Furniture plans to launch new collections emphasising sustainable materials and modern living concepts. Expansion of the European footprint is planned, leveraging the German warehouse to serve regional retailers with enhanced speed and customisation. Additionally, digital capabilities will be extended with 3D visualisation, AR applications, and virtual showroom experiences for partners.

Agent search in Benelux
Modus Europe is actively seeking an agent for the Benelux region, either for the entire area or separately for the Netherlands and Belgium/Luxembourg. Jackie emphasises the distinction between Modus and Modus Europe as separate but closely connected entities, noting the ongoing process to identify suitable representation in these markets. Jack Kleppe from Go Grow Dutch is the partner for AgencySearch.
