French designer Franck Genser has introduced Scarf, a new bespoke seating collection revealed at Salone del Mobile, which offers a refined balance of sculptural form and emotional resonance. Designed as a sofa, armchair, and lounge chair, Scarf redefines comfort through fluid curves and a poetic silhouette, embodying a timeless design language that eschews fleeting trends.

The collection's defining feature is its "continuous, sweeping backrest that curves around the seating volume with sculptural precision," creating an interplay between mass and void, surface and support. This gesture is not merely decorative but "organises space," producing seating that suggests both "visual movement and spatial containment."
Scarf comprises three sofas, a lounge chair, and an armchair, prioritising "thoughtful form over stylistic excess." Its proportions are "generous but never indulgent," striking a balance between presence and comfort. The frame is crafted from oak and paired with memory foam cushioning, upholstered in stretch chenille by Pierre Frey, a fabric selected for its seamless conformity to the collection's intricate geometry. The "near absence of visible seams or folds emphasises the sculptural unity of the piece."
The collection is inspired by the gentle drape of fabric over the shoulders, offering "a tactile, protective embrace." Yet, it remains faithful to Franck Genser's design ethos, where "form springs from emotional resonance and the interplay between human and environment."
Franck Genser founded his Paris-based studio in 2015, bringing together engineers and artisans to explore the emotional and functional dimensions of objects. "Fascinated by the soul of objects and all dimensions of their influence on the individual," Genser's approach is informed by his background as an engineer and his passion for Gestalt therapy, emphasising "the constant interaction between the human being and their environment." In his work, "form becomes the foremost function, emerging from inspiration without necessarily being tied to a specific use."
His practice blends functionality, art, and emotion, often working with noble materials like walnut, parchment, marble, and Japanese lacquer that develop a patina over time. This results in "objects brimming with emotion" that serve as "a current and future testimony of our era," fitting within a heritage perspective.
Scarf exemplifies this unique creative vision, offering European interiors a seating collection where bespoke craftsmanship meets evocative design.
