The new IKEA store on JD.com offers over 6,500 products spanning all categories, coupled with convenient delivery and membership services from day one. To celebrate the launch, IKEA has introduced special offers designed to make its products even more affordable for Chinese consumers.
Pontus Erntell, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer at IKEA China, highlighted the significance of this development:
'Since 2018, IKEA China has been strengthening the omnichannel development and improving its offer in China. Launching on JD.com is an important day on that journey as it is enabling us to enhance our accessibility to more Chinese families who value quality and service.'
This digital expansion complements IKEA's ongoing investment in its physical retail infrastructure across China. Ingka Group is committing more than YAN 6.3 billion (approximately EUR 800 million) to the market by 2027. Recent store openings in Xi'an, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, alongside the launch of China's first IKEA pick-up point in Shenzhen, demonstrate IKEA's integrated omnichannel approach.
Tolga Öncü, Ingka Retail Manager (COO) of IKEA Retail (Ingka Group), emphasised China's strategic importance:
'China is one of the most developed retail markets in the world where we learn a lot and challenge ourselves to meet customers in new ways. We look very much forward to continue innovating our retail business in China and bringing some learnings to other parts of the world.'
Sustainability remains a core focus as IKEA expands in China. The market leads Ingka Group in adopting electric vehicles (EVs) for delivery services, with 92% of all parcel and truck deliveries conducted via EVs. Additionally, 17 Chinese cities now receive parcel deliveries exclusively through electric vehicles, underlining IKEA's commitment to environmentally responsible operations.
Ingka Group operates IKEA retail businesses in 31 markets and accounts for approximately 90% of IKEA's global retail sales. As a strategic partner to Inter IKEA Systems B.V., Ingka Group continuously innovates and develops IKEA's retail concepts, ensuring the brand's relevance and accessibility worldwide.
This launch on JD.com represents a key milestone in IKEA's ambition to bring "a better everyday life for the many people" to millions more households across China. It also signals the retailer's ongoing commitment to adapting its business model to meet evolving consumer needs in Europe and beyond.
