Mixed signals in German wood exports as OSB prices climb

Between January and May, Germany exported 999,000 cubic metres of chipboard and OSB, marking a slight year-on-year decline of just under 3% compared to 1.03 million cubic metres during the same period in 2024. Export trends across key markets were mixed.

Beech sawn timber exports remained steady year-on-year. Stronger demand from China and Vietnam helped offset reduced volumes shipped to the USA and Mexico, resulting in no overall change in total export quantity.

In the packaging wood segment, prices for solid wood used in pallet and packaging production held firm in July, maintaining levels seen in the prior two months. However, price developments varied across other wood types. Plywood prices continued to fall, while OSB prices sustained an upward trajectory.

These figures reflect the ongoing fluctuations in global wood demand and pricing, shaped by shifting regional market conditions and supply dynamics.
