Mohawk shows in the report that it knows how to translate sustainable initiatives into impactful results in concrete terms. For instance, the company has recycled more than 60 billion plastic water bottles in the past decade and turned nearly 23 million discarded car tyres into decorative mats by 2024 alone. Furthermore, Mohawk managed to reduce Scope 1, 2 and biogenic emission intensity by 30 per cent compared to 2010. Renewable energy consumption also increased by 117 per cent and global water abstraction improved in intensity by 45 per cent.
Besides environmental impact, the report pays attention to human resources management. For instance, 10.5 per cent of the more than 40,000 employees have been working at Mohawk for 25 years or more, contributing to its position as one of America's largest and most stable employers, according to the company. On the safety front, Mohawk managed to reduce the number of recordable incidents by 35 per cent compared to 2010, thanks in part to safety initiatives and active employee engagement.
Furthermore, in partnership with One Tree Planted, Mohawk planted more than 132,000 trees by 2024. According to CSO Malisa Maynard, transparency has always been a core value within Mohawk. "Since my arrival four years ago, I have been impressed by the openness and integrity with which we work. That drives progress." According to her, the report shows how Mohawk is not only adapting to stricter regulations, but more importantly is committed to improving its own processes, developing innovative products and contributing to safer workplaces and stronger communities.
