Cologne’s cityscape will be transformed into an interior design stage

idd cologne 2025 focuses 100% on urban living

The inaugural edition of idd cologne 2025 is set to reshape the European interior design landscape with a bold "urban-only" concept that brings the industry's creative energy directly into the heart of the city. From 26 to 29 October 2025, Cologne will transform into a dynamic, open-air design arena, with brand activations and exhibitions taking place across curated city locations.

Departing from the traditional trade fair model, the event will centre around iconic venues such as Design Post Cologne and Stoff-Pavillon Moeller, marking a new era for interior design showcases. The move is the result of close collaboration between Koelnmesse, the Association of the German Furniture Industry (VDM), and key industry leaders.

'Interior design thrives on proximity, inspiration and cultural context. With idd cologne as the first "urban-only" format, we're responding to the current needs of the industry and moving even closer to the heart of the city, its creative scene and its people,' said Oliver Frese, Chief Operating Officer of Koelnmesse. 'At Koelnmesse, we see it as our job to tap into and develop opportunities like this shoulder to shoulder with the industry, in a spirit of partnership, with an eye to the future and a clear commitment to creating relevant platforms for our exhibitors and visitors.'

Leo Lübke, President of the VDM and Managing Director of COR, echoed the significance of this evolution: 'The industry's need for a strong platform with international appeal for exclusive interior design remains unchanged. The fact that Koelnmesse, our long-standing partner, continues to work with us to develop the concept sends an important signal to the market. This orientation creates proximity to the city, opens up future possibilities and provides the right setting for networking, dialogue and inspiration in today's dynamic market environment.'

With over 35 leading brands confirmed and more than 3,500 square metres of presentation space at Design Post alone, the event promises a rich, immersive experience. Other citywide activations will include exhibitions at Stoff-Pavillon Moeller, a post-war architectural gem, as well as displays hosted by premium retailers such as Biomöbel Johannes Genske, Goldkant, Qvest Shop, and Stoll Wohnbedarf + Objekt, among more than 25 participating partners.

idd cologne 2025 will spotlight the intersections of design, culture and commerce, delivering a fresh, urban-infused perspective for the European design community. Full programme details and additional venues will be announced soon.
