UDIT embraces flexible design to transform education

Actiu equips the university of the future

The Madrid campuses of the University of Design, Innovation and Technology (UDIT) reflect a new educational paradigm: active learning, applied creativity, and technology as a driver of transformation. This pioneering model would not be possible without a flexible, ergonomic, and contemporary environment, fully equipped with furniture from Actiu, UDIT's strategic partner on both campuses.

Actiu, a leading company in the design and manufacture of furniture for workspaces, contract, educational and healthcare environments, has been the strategic partner in a pioneering collaboration that has enabled the institution to develop a contemporary, ergonomic, and versatile learning ecosystem aligned with its educational model based on active learning and applied creativity.

UDIT's growth and its commitment to new ways of teaching and learning require furniture that goes beyond functionality. Lightweight and stackable chairs like Fluit, made from 100% recycled plastic, and Whass, designed to optimise space, make it easy to rearrange classrooms and multipurpose rooms.

Operational tables such as Prisma, with wooden frames and clean lines; Talent, height-adjustable and foldable to suit different activities; and the highly versatile Tabula enable dynamic configurations in just minutes.

Modular Longo sofas, which combine comfort and aesthetics; Noom armchairs, with enveloping shapes designed for well-being; and casual Bend poufs invite relaxation, informal exchange, and idea generation.

From individual study zones and libraries equipped with Spacio chairs, to cafés featuring Wing and Whass chairs in various colors, Actiu furniture is present in every space, helping to create a warm, inclusive, and efficient environment. Projects like the Aula Chillida and the pilot classroom designed in 2020 by Master's students demonstrate the potential of active collaboration between manufacturer, university, and students.

The result is agile spaces that transform the educational experience and help solidify UDIT's position as an international benchmark.

'We've been collaborating with UDIT since 2020, and it's been a very rewarding process because it has allowed us to engage directly with students and educators who are driving new ways of learning and working. Supporting a university committed to active and collaborative methodologies reinforces our dedication to designing environments that foster creativity, well-being, and innovation', says Soledat Berbegal, board member and Brand Reputation Manager at Actiu.

UDIT spans over 21,000 m² across the Design and Creative Industries Campus (Avda. Alfonso XIII, 97-99 and C/ Colombia, 44) and the Technology, Innovation, and Applied Sciences Campus (C/ Alcalá, 506). Additionally, the building at C/ Colombia 44, part of the Design and Creative Industries Campus, was recently awarded at the 2024 Architecture Madrid Awards.

The Colombia 44 building, designed by architect Enrique Barrera, is one of the most prominent examples: a multipurpose, flexible, and bright space entirely equipped with Actiu furniture, featuring recyclable materials, high-resistance upholstery, optimized acoustics, and easy maintenance. This combination ensures the durability of the spaces and aligns with the shared commitment to sustainability and user well-being.
