Jysk defies retail slowdown with plan to open 150 new stores in 2025

Danish retail giant Jysk is accelerating its international growth, planning to open approximately 150 new stores in 2025. The move forms part of its long-term goal to reach 5,000 stores worldwide, up from its current 3,500 across 50 countries.

Despite global economic uncertainty and waning consumer confidence, Jysk remains committed to expansion. According to retail director Mikael Nielsen, there are "no plans to pull the handbrake". He confirmed the retailer will pursue additional openings if suitable locations emerge.

This year's openings include new markets such as Morocco and Turkey, and the company recently launched its 100th store in Italy. Jysk is also continuing its rollout of a new Unified Commerce system and upgrading existing outlets to its modern 3.0 concept, which now encompasses over 90% of its network.

The expansion includes both traditional large-format stores and smaller urban formats tailored to areas with limited car access. Growth is also being pursued in established markets, such as Germany, where new sites are being actively sought.

The Lars Larsen Group-owned company shows no sign of slowing, defying wider industry trends by doubling down on bricks-and-mortar retail while strengthening its omnichannel capabilities.
