Arbore explores material hybrids and regional narratives in latest collection

'In the centre of your household we want you to enjoy our table together with your loved ones'

Founded on a multi-generational trajectory, Romanian furniture brand Arbore traces its formal beginning to 1999, though its operational and cultural roots stretch back to 1972. Emerging from a Transylvanian context defined by family-led entrepreneurship, the company evolved out of a local workshop founded by Elena Birtoc and her three sisters. Today, Arbore is run by the third generation of the family and operates as a brand positioned at the intersection of Eastern European craftsmanship and broader European design markets.

'In the centre of your household, we want you to enjoy our
table together with your loved ones,' Arbore's Vlad Deac
explained in an interview with InteriorDaily.com,

and functional anchor.

New material direction through design collaboration
The company's ISRA collection marks a shift in visual language and collaboration strategy. Designed by Șerban Georgescu of ISRA Design, the collection combines Romanian oak with marble and metal accents, referencing an "Industrial Luxury" style not previously explored by Arbore.

'While we remain grounded in our core philosophy of good-hearted simplicity, this collection explores new creative terrain,' Vlad said, describing the fusion of traditional wood craft with engineered finishes. The move aligns with growing industry interest in hybrid materiality and mixed typologies, particularly within high-use residential and hospitality settings.

Market dynamics and spatial applications
Arbore's strongest presence remains in Western Europe, particularly the UK and France, though Vlad notes rising engagement in Romania and Eastern Europe, where increased interest in locally-produced, design-forward furniture is supporting growth in both private and commercial segments.

One reference project, the Old Sessions House by Knotel in London, demonstrated Arbore's capacity to operate within adaptive reuse frameworks. 'Our furniture played a key role in creating a warm, tactile atmosphere that elevated the user experience,' Vlad noted.

While the company maintains a generalist stance across typologies, it continues to centre its identity on dining and meeting environments, spaces associated with cultural continuity and architectural narrative.

Production adaptability and future positioning
Responding to increased demand for customisation and material variation, Arbore has integrated a high level of adaptability across its production systems, including modular wood finishes and textile options. This operational shift is supported by technical upgrades to their factory facilities, allowing for more complex manufacturing processes without displacing manual craft techniques.

Looking ahead, Arbore plans to remain present at key European fairs such as Maison & Objet (Paris), Salone del Mobile (Milan), and is preparing for Habitat Valencia 2026, citing the Spanish market as an emerging area of focus.

'We invite your audience to explore the new wave of emerging Eastern European design brands,' Vlad concluded. 'There's a vibrant creative energy in this region, shaped by deep-rooted craftsmanship and a fresh, honest approach to design.'
