Luxury rug designer Jan Kath, in collaboration with his son Sanchir Kath, has received the prestigious Red Dot Award 2025 for their latest creation, the DOTO rug. Recognised for its distinctive craftsmanship and sensory allure, DOTO has captivated the international jury with its refined execution and conceptual depth.

'The DOTO rug by designer Jan Kath and his son Sanchir Kath has won the Red Dot Award 2025,' the brand confirmed. The jury praised the design's remarkable artistry, stating: 'DOTO impresses with its exceptional design and high quality. Premium materials and precise craftsmanship give the rug a multifaceted appearance.'
Drawing inspiration from the magical world of the oceans, DOTO translates the ethereal movement of water into an elegant, meditative design. 'Inspired by the flowing movements and shimmering reflections beneath the water's surface, iridescent colours and smooth transitions merge into a design that radiates serenity and calm.'
The rugs are painstakingly knotted by hand in Nepal, a process that takes several months, ensuring each piece becomes a testament to both tradition and tactile luxury. 'Jan Kath rugs are knotted by hand in Nepal, knot by knot, over a period of several months,' the company notes.
Crafted from Tibetan highland wool, Nepalese nettle, and the finest Chinese silk, the DOTO rug achieves 'an incomparable texture and a subtle sheen that highlights the depth of the design.' The model currently showcased measures 2.5 × 3 metres, but custom sizes and colour requests are available on demand.
Starting Tuesday, 8 July, DOTO will be on display at the Red Dot Design Museum located at Zeche Zollverein in Essen, Germany, where it will remain exhibited for one year.
With this accolade, Jan Kath further cements his reputation as a pioneer in merging artisanal rug-making with bold, modern expression. The DOTO rug is not only a visual experience but also an emotional one, inviting its audience to dive beneath the surface and explore beauty through stillness.
