At online shopping company Wehkamp, 103 of its 1,100 jobs will disappear. This was announced to staff yesterday, Monday 7 July. The redundancies are mainly at the head office in Zwolle (The Netherlands) and at the office of its own clothing line in Hilversum. According to management, the measure is necessary because of ongoing financial problems and an imbalance between costs and turnover.

Of the 103 positions, 84 will disappear through natural attrition, non-renewal of temporary contracts and failure to fill open vacancies. 'A total of 103 positions will be lost, most of them at office locations,' the management said. The works council gave a positive opinion on the proposed changes on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
The company has been struggling with declining sales and red numbers for three years in a row. A loss of almost 8.7 million euros was recorded in 2024. Earlier reorganisations already led to a sharp contraction of the workforce: in 2022, 1,158 people were still employed, compared to 840 last year.
The management points to changing consumer behaviour and falling confidence as causes of the financial pressure. Efforts are being made to simplify the organisation and better tailor the offering to customer needs. Most of the positions disappearing concern management roles.
