Confidence builds as construction suppliers predict steady growth in Germany

A sales recovery appears to be taking shape in the construction sector, with most manufacturers of building and installation materials forecasting a positive 2025. According to a recent BauInfoConsult survey of 42 manufacturers in Germany, over four-fifths anticipate sales growth this year, while nearly half expect only slight increases.

The survey covered producers of heating and air conditioning systems, construction chemicals, building elements, and finishing materials. Two-thirds of respondents believe the worst of the downturn is behind them, and 79% expect an industry rebound over the next two years.

While one-fifth predict flat sales, fewer than 10% foresee declines, mainly among smaller manufacturers tied to "new construction-heavy" products like roof and exterior wall systems. These businesses are still feeling the impact of a weak permitting environment in 2024 but remain hopeful for a rebound.

Last year's performance was mixed: 57% of surveyed firms increased sales despite market challenges, while 36% faced declines. Sectors such as construction chemicals and exterior systems saw strong growth, whereas HVAC and wall material manufacturers were among the hardest hit.

Overall, the industry outlook is cautiously optimistic as demand stabilises and expectations for recovery build.
