Bolighuset Ry, a renowned Danish furniture store with a 134-year legacy, has reopened under new ownership after closing in 2023 due to financial difficulties. The original business began in 1889 as a carpentry workshop by Christian Rasmussen, growing over four generations into a 1,000 sq m modern furniture retailer known for high-quality Danish design.

Furniture retailer Interiør A/S, which already operates a store in nearby Kragelund, will open a new store at Bolighuset Ry's historic address, Kyhnsvej 6, on 22 August 2025. Janus Mortensen, CEO of Interiør A/S, described the opportunity as "a huge honour" to revive a location with a rich tradition of furniture and home decoration.
Bolighuset Ry's rise to prominence was marked by exporting Danish modern furniture, especially designs by Hans J. Wegner, to international markets from the 1950s onwards. The business closed in 2023 amid increased market discounting and challenges in maintaining profitability despite providing personalised service.
Interiør A/S continues the tradition by selling premium Danish brands such as Fritz Hansen, Montana, and Carl Hansen & Søn, aiming to blend quality craftsmanship with contemporary retail.
