Architects launch floating Red Sea eco-resort in bold leap for luxury travel

Shebara Resort, designed by Killa Design with interiors by Studio Paolo Ferrari, is a pioneering eco-luxury development off the coast of Saudi Arabia. Located on an untouched island in the Red Sea, the resort comprises 73 reflective steel villas that appear to float between sky and sea, blending seamlessly into the natural environment.

Each villa is either suspended above water or set on the beach, crafted as an independent living space. The interiors use tactile materials like wood, onyx, leather and polished steel to create immersive, curved environments. Custom-designed furnishings, including sculptural bar cabinets and integrated beds, offer a blend of innovation and comfort.

Studio Paolo Ferrari described the design as seeking 'a balance between the charm of the unknown and the comfort of the recognisable'. The spherical architecture required bespoke solutions, from suspended washbasins to leather-clad walls with bronze detailing.

The centrepiece is the Royal Villa, a 900-square-metre double sphere featuring carved onyx, travertine and handcrafted furnishings that highlight a fusion of technology and craftsmanship.

Powered entirely by solar energy and equipped with desalination and circular waste systems, Shebara stands as a physical expression of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 and a new era in sustainable luxury.
