Two talents awarded the Women&Design Award

During the Women&Design fair at Maison&Objet last month, the Women&Design Awards were presented for the first time. This new award shines a spotlight on female designers who, with courage, dedication, and creativity, contribute to shaping the contemporary design landscape. The award was created to highlight innovative perspectives and inspiring careers of female designers worldwide.

Two awards, one goal
The Women&Design Awards are part of the broader Women&Design network of Maison&Objet and consist of two categories:

  • Women&Design Innovation Award Worldwide, awarded to an international designer, selected by a network of ambassadors from cities such as Dubai, Hong Kong, the US, and Germany.
  • Women&Design Innovation Award France, intended for a French designer or entrepreneur in the design field.

The initiative aims not only to honour female innovation but also to create connections between cultures, disciplines, and visions of contemporary design.

The winners of 2025
Elaine Yan Ling Ng, Women&Design Innovation Award Worldwide. Elaine Yan Ling Ng is a designer, artist, and technologist. She combines traditional craftsmanship with technological innovation in her biomimetic designs. As the founder of The Fabrick Lab, she develops textiles that respond to light, humidity, and movement. Her work has been exhibited at venues including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. She has previously collaborated with brands such as Kvadrat, Swarovski, and Nature Squared.

Sophie Salager, Women&Design Innovation Award France. Trained as an art historian, Sophie Salager breathed new life into the historic French porcelain factory Manufacture de Couleuvre. Since 2022, she has been working on preserving and renewing the craft, linking heritage with contemporary design. The factory has now become a place where traditional craftsmanship and new creative directions come together.

Jury and finalists
The jury consisted of professionals from the design world, including Danièle Gerkens, Dorothée Meilichzon, Sylvie Adigard, Constance Guisset, and Julien Sebban. They selected the two winners from a shortlist of thirteen finalists from the United States, Hong Kong, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, and France.

Conference on September 6, 2025
During the upcoming edition of Maison&Objet, a special Women&Design conference will take place on Saturday, September 6, at 3:00 PM, featuring both winners, Danièle Gerkens, and Julien Sebban. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the work of the designers in greater depth and discuss current themes within the design world.
