The U.S. mattress market saw a 5.7% decline in dollar sales and an 11.2% drop in unit sales in Q1 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, according to the International Sleep Products Association (ISPA). Total sales, including domestic and imported mattresses and stationary foundations, fell to $2.4 billion, with unit volume down to approximately 8.7 million.

ISPA attributed the downturn to "slowing economic growth, policy uncertainty and stubborn inflation." Sales of U.S.-produced mattresses dropped 4.4% to $2 billion, with unit sales falling 8.1% to 4.4 million. U.S.-made stationary foundation sales declined 15.5% in value and 13.2% in units.
The average price of domestic mattresses rose 4% to $452.63, while stationary foundations slipped 2.7% to $92.15. Imports also declined, with total imported goods falling 7.3% to $290 million. Imported mattress sales plunged 23.7% in value and 18.6% in volume, with average unit prices down 6.2% to $70.46.
These figures underscore a sluggish start to 2025 for the bedding sector, reflecting broader economic pressures on consumer spending and the home furnishings market.
