GAN announces its inaugural collaboration with London-based German designer Bodo Sperlein, introducing Botanica, a rug collection deeply inspired by the organic forms and textures of nature. This partnership brings a fresh biophilic character to interior spaces, fostering a tangible connection between design and the natural world.

Bodo Sperlein shares, 'The design of Botanica is inspired by the organic forms and textures found in nature, particularly in flora and in fungi. Their intricate structures, their soft curves, and their layered elements are the basis of the design of this collection, with which I have tried to reflect the beauty and the complexity of the natural world.'
The Botanica Green rug exemplifies this philosophy with its intricate botanical patterns and a pronounced volumetric effect. By carefully selecting nuanced colour gradients and employing varying pile heights, the rug creates an illusion of depth and movement, enhancing its organic fluidity and three-dimensional presence.
Known for seamlessly blending artisanal craftsmanship with contemporary design, Sperlein employed a combination of hand-tufting and carving techniques to achieve the collection's richly textured, dynamic surfaces. This dual technique allows GAN's skilled artisans in India to craft multiple elevations within a single design, mimicking the natural undulations and contours found in flora.
Sperlein explains, 'I am particularly drawn to organic forms, materiality, and the relationship between craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics. Nature, movement, and tactile qualities are often recurring elements in my designs.'
The Botanica collection stands as a testament to GAN's commitment to contemporary handcrafted excellence, offering interiors that celebrate the expressiveness and movement of nature through texture and form.
