Children’s home in Denmark to be build with wood for DKK 47 million

A new sustainable children's home named Enghaven will be constructed in Solrød Municipality, Denmark, with a total budget of DKK 47 million. CC Contractor A/S has secured the turnkey contract for the project, which will replace two existing institutions, Spiren and Solstrålen, combining them into a modern daycare facility.

The 1,218 m² building will accommodate 84 nursery children and will be situated on a natural plot north of the Sports Kindergarten. The design centres on sustainability and well-being, with the use of thermowood façades, light grey steel roofing, and interior finishes such as wood concrete, plywood, and linoleum.

Enghaven is expected to meet the 2023 DGNB Gold certification and the DGNB Heart add-on, which focuses on social and health-related factors. Architecturally, the structure will feature group rooms gathered beneath a single large gable roof, creating both visual unity and functional cohesion.

Construction is scheduled to begin in November 2025 and be completed the following year. The project reflects a broader trend in Danish public construction toward ecological responsibility and child-centred design, according to Wood Supply's sister publication Projektagenten.
