Set against the fast-paced rhythm of Copenhagen's 3daysofdesign festival, Intermezzo invites visitors into a rare and sensory pause. Conceived by Copenhagen-based spatial designer Yasmin Edgecombe in collaboration with textile studio ARNE AKSEL, the exhibition transforms a stripped-back parking lot at Vognmagergade 5 into a light-filled sanctuary of fabric, shadow, and stillness.

Framed around the concept of a sundial, the installation explores the interplay between time, texture and emotion, offering what Edgecombe describes as: 'A playful pause to enjoy a moment, where unexpected ideas take stage and creativity dances between the lines.'
Intermezzo distils architecture down to its sensory core: raw construction, ambient light, and repurposed textiles converge in a space that celebrates imperfection and material honesty. Overhead architectural ceiling windows diffuse natural light across minimal, deliberate structures. The result is a tactile atmosphere, enhanced by subtle soundscapes and suspended fabrics, that encourages reflection and presence.
At the heart of the installation is ARNE AKSEL's exploration of dead-stock fabrics, repurposed and suspended to shape a cocoon-like environment. 'We want to create spaces that you've never been before, so you can think thoughts you've never thought before, and from that, create amazing ideas,' the studio explains.
Together, Edgecombe and ARNE AKSEL present a spatial experience aligned with the overarching theme of 3daysofdesign 2025: KEEP IT REAL, a celebration of authenticity, emotional design and conscious creativity.
The exhibition also showcases the work of nine international design brands whose ethos mirrors Intermezzo's philosophy of sustainable materials and emotional resonance:
- Friends & Founders (DK) blends Scandinavian minimalism with sculptural design.
- MANU MATTERS (SE) creates objects from waste streams like lemon peel and PET bottles.
- Marset (ES) curates lighting that balances shadow and mood to enhance daily life.
- it's about RoMi (NL) offers urban-inspired lighting while planting trees with every sale.
- Jeroen De Ruddere (BE) sculpts minimalist wood-and-bronze pieces by hand.
- Marco Zelli (CH) presents modular design focused on the dynamic between permanence and change.
- Hollis+Morris (CA) showcases FSC-certified wood and metal furnishings.
- Triple Bottom Line (JP) explores emotional, sustainable design through simple forms.
- LOOM Design (DK) delivers refined Scandinavian lighting for indoor and outdoor spaces.
Located within District Rosengård, Intermezzo reflects the district's transformation from a fortified zone into an open city, mirroring the exhibition's invitation to shed surface distractions and rediscover authentic creative impulses.
