'A celebration of honesty in objects, materials and the stories behind them'

Design professionals gather in Copenhagen as 3daysofdesign opens today

The streets of Copenhagen will today welcome thousands of professionals from across Europe and beyond, as 3daysofdesign begins its 2025 edition. The annual event, now a fixture in the European design calendar, opens its doors under the theme Keep It Real, focusing on authenticity in materials, production methods and storytelling.

The organisers of the festival describe the theme as 'a celebration of honesty in objects, materials and the stories behind them.' The concept aims to encourage industry professionals to reflect on transparency in both design and the broader supply chain.

For many attending, the appeal lies not just in the exhibition content, but in the cross-sector dialogues the event fosters. 'It's about staying in sync with your soul. Being authentic. Human. And Original,' organisers stated in advance communications. The programming is positioned to emphasise the relationships between designers, manufacturers, retailers and material supp

Among the scheduled events is the AI & I Symposium, which addresses the role of artificial intelligence in the evolving design industry. The six-session series will feature figures such as Clara Cornet from Meta, designer Luca Nichetto, artist Mathilde Friis Olsen, and Kaave Pour of 21st Europe. The sessions intend to unpack practical experiences in AI-human collaboration. "What works, what doesn't?" organisers ask in the preview materials, pointing to a neutral examination of ongoing experimentation within the field.

To mark the opening, a "Kick-off Cocktail Hour" will be hosted simultaneously at all eight of the festival's i-Points, distributed across Copenhagen's new Design Districts. Organisers noted that the aim is to avoid the fragmented social experience that can often define trade fairs. 'Often visitors run from one place to another, or end up not getting invited to any party at all. We would love for everyone to feel a sense of togetherness right from the start.'

This year's custom cocktail, also titled Keep It Real, is produced by Aeris Cocktails using organic ingredients sourced in Denmark. It will be offered during the launch hour from 17:00–18:00 today.

Practical tools are also being offered to facilitate navigation through the programme's broad offering. Eight short video guides suggest routes through the city's districts, which are accessible through the event's app.

As part of the content build-up, exhibitors were asked to reflect on the meaning of the Keep It Real theme. Ceramicist Longfei Tōsei Wang and interior designer Nathalie Schwer were among those who shared perspectives on what transparency and individuality mean in practice.

3daysofdesign continues until Friday, June 20. The fair is expected to draw interest from interior architects, stylists, furniture producers, and concept developers active across Europe.
