Dutch retail chain Blokker opens 12 shops

Blokker will open 12 shops across the country on Wednesday 18 June. The retail chain confirmed this in an e-mail to customers. The new stores will be in Alphen aan den Rijn, Amsterdam (Haarlemmerdijk and Rozengracht), Bovenkarspel, Breskens, Den Bosch, Elst, Emmen, Hoogezand, Voorburg, Weert and Zeist, among others.

This large-scale reopening is part of the repositioning of the brand since former managing director Roland Palmer acquired the rights to the Blokker brand name in late 2024. It was previously announced that at least 37 shops of its own will be opened this year.

The chain went bankrupt in November 2024. At that time, there were around 400 stores, of which about 45 were run by franchisees. Some of these shops continued to operate after the bankruptcy.

The revamped shops refocus on the familiar household range. 'From irons and clothes steamers to frying pans and cleaning products,' said category manager Joop Geelen. The paper advertising brochure will also be reintroduced, expected in the summer.

The return of the classic Blokker logo is striking: the familiar capital letters in orange blocks make their re-entry. With this, the chain says goodbye to the house style with lowercase letters and a dot, introduced in previous years.
