Steel breathes in the heart of London with Oskar Zięta's latest public installation

Polish architect and designer Oskar Zięta has unveiled his latest public installation, "Whispers", in central London as part of the Polish season in the UK. Located outside the New Ludgate building near St. Paul's Cathedral, the sculptural bench-like form invites interaction and reflection on human connection.

Created using Zięta's proprietary FiDU technology, where steel is inflated under pressure, the piece transforms a once-flat material into a ribbed, semi-cylindrical structure. Described by Zięta as a "technological manifesto", the method results in lightweight yet highly durable objects. He explained, 'Even though FiDU originated as a material deformation error, its potential in fields like automotive design is immense.'

"Whispers" was unveiled through a participatory performance, where attendees pumped air into the steel structure, watching it gradually expand. The installation is part of the London Festival of Architecture and symbolises breaking social barriers through shared experience.

Visitors can view "Whispers" at the corner of Ludgate Hill and Limeburner Lane until 28 September. The project was realised through a collaboration between the Polish Cultural Institute in London, Let's Art Foundation, On & On Designs, Fleet Street Quarter, and Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
