Italian lighting brand Contardi introduces HAT, a new lighting collection designed in collaboration with renowned designer Paola Navone and her OTTO Studio. The collection reimagines the classic lampshade form with a refined, yet playful approach that balances timeless design and modern sensibility.

A tribute to essential elegance, HAT blends nostalgic inspiration with contemporary design cues. Rooted in 1950s aesthetics but executed with modern materials and vision, the collection includes floor, table and pendant lamps. These pieces seamlessly fit into a wide range of interior contexts, residential, hospitality or contract, while maintaining a distinctive personality.
'Our desire was to create a versatile object that could fit harmoniously into any context without losing character,' says Domenico Diego of OTTO Studio. 'We wanted a design that was both ordinary and extraordinary, combining simplicity and sophistication with a playful touch.'
A key design feature of HAT is its innovative use of rope, which wraps around the structure in the table and floor versions and acts as a suspension element in the pendant models. This tactile detail softens the lamps' appearance and introduces a new level of visual interest. 'A distinctive feature of HAT is the innovative use of rope, which wraps around the metal structure... giving it softness.'
Each piece features elegant white lampshades made from cotton or Tyvek, the latter lending an unexpected texture to the classic silhouette. The materials offer subtle contrasts, between solid rope-wrapped bases and airy, lightweight shades, that evoke both craftsmanship and modern refinement. 'To ensure maximum versatility, the rope base is combined with lampshades in different materials that add a note of lightness, creating an unexpected contrast between material structure and refined texture.'
The HAT collection demonstrates Contardi's ongoing commitment to combining aesthetics with functionality, building on its reputation for archi-decorative design that anticipates the demands of a global, discerning clientele. Founded in 2006 and led by the Carcano family and General Manager Massimo Brigandì, Contardi has grown to international prominence with projects in the hospitality, haute cuisine and luxury yacht sectors. In 2015, the company expanded its reach with the opening of Contardi USA in New York.
This launch continues Contardi's fruitful collaborations with globally respected designers such as Federico Peri, Studiopepe, Adam Tihany, and Servomuto. The HAT collection, designed by Paola Navone and OTTO Studio, adds a fresh dimension to the brand's offering for the final consumer.
Paola Navone, known for her eclectic design ethos and deep global influences, brings her signature blend of South-meets-West aesthetics to the project. Her Milan-based OTTO Studio, formed alongside Cristina Pettenuzzo, Domenico Diego and Gian Paolo Venier, has delivered projects across interiors, products and art direction. Her many accolades include the Red Dot Design Award, Good Design Award, multiple Elle Deco International Design Awards, and induction into the Interior Design Hall of Fame.
